PetPlan Insurance Review
What Does Petplan Offer English Bulldogs?
A big plus for English bulldogs is Petplan’s lifetime coverage option with no limits on the amount of overall coverage for a specific condition. Bulldogs can end up suffering from a number of ongoing and costly issues, such as food allergies, hip dysplasia, cancer and arthritis, which can add up to thousands of dollars of treatment over several years.
Hereditary and congenital conditions are covered, two more common bulldog issues that may require ongoing or costly treatments. The only limit that applies is the annual limit, allowing you to continuously use your coverage for reimbursement of the same ongoing condition.
A caveat, however, is the premium increases that can happen without advance notice every time you renew your policy. One policy holder mentioned his rates increased 10 percent the third year and 15 percent the fourth year – even though he had a fairly young pet and had filed no claims whatsoever.
Another caveat is the lack of any type of wellness coverage options, with no policies or riders that cover routine care. Petplan does cover specified prescription medications, but offers no coverage for prescription foods or special diets that bulldogs often require.
Coverage for a lost or stolen bulldog, or the cost of the pet if he dies from injury or illness, is a rather unique insurance offering. But the reimbursement limit is $250 or $500, whereas English bulldogs can cost upwards of $1,000.
